About Jane

I have studied at the graduate TESOL department of the New School. I received a Masters degree from New York University in Educational Theater and a BS in Communications from the City University of New York at Hunter College. I have tutored ESL students at LaGuardia University's ESL lab and taught middle and high school English (creative writing) at The New Lincoln School. I am a published author of fiction and I have written educational material for The Weekly Reader and McGraw Hill. I use improvisation in my lessons but the emphasis is on conversation, correct grammar, and pronunciation. Writing is about form and content and the correct use of the English language. I have worked in ESL for Oxford University Press and for The New York Times in their newspapers in education division.

About the lesson

Conversational speaking for ESL students. Real-life situations enacted. In this class, taught by an actress with a Master's in teaching Drama and a published author, we will practice all four primary language skills. We will read aloud, discuss content, hone pronunciation, and develop the ability to listen and understand a variety of spoken English accents.

Topics will vary, and guiding questions and vocabulary will be introduced. Ideal for students who want to practice speaking conversational English and business English.

Writing in English through creative writing exercises with an emphasis on correct grammar and structure.
