About Heather
I'm an experienced, friendly, and fully qualified English Teacher and GCSE examiner, and I take pride in boosting my students' confidence as well as their ability. I love studying my subject and I always try to share this enthusiasm by creating lessons that are tailored to each student's individual interests and needs.
I work with 11+, KS3 and GCSE students, and I work with a range of exam boards (AQA, Edexcel GCSE and iGCSE, OCR and Cambridge iGCSE).
I have worked in education since 2015 and have been a full time private tutor since 2019.

My teaching style is adaptable, depending on the needs of each student as an individual, but I always focus on trying to build confidence and enthusiasm for my subject. I love reading and learning new facts, and often discuss books and context in my classes, focusing on a well rounded education. I find students often enjoy learning about the social and historical context of the text we are looking at, and it often really helps their understanding.
For exam focused tuition, we tend to use exam style questions and practise the answers. I find seeing examples, planning together, writing part of the answer and getting immediate feedback and working on improving tend to be effective methods for progression.

Heather is passionate when sharing her love for the subject, which has helped my son to find her lessons engaging and effective. If a lesson is cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, the whole fee will be charged. If this happens, I am happy to set a written task and give written feedback outside of the lesson, so the student is still able to get some benefit.
