About CRAIG
I became a teacher because I understand what it feels like to need support, reassurance, and someone who genuinely believes in your potential. I want to be the teacher I never had - someone who sees, listens without judgement, and helps young people feel capable, understood, and confident in themselves.
For me, teaching is not just about academic success. It is about creating a space where students feel safe enough to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow in confidence. I know that many young people carry pressures that are not always visible in the classroom, particularly around exams and expectations, which is why wellbeing and trust are central to the way I teach.
I believe students achieve more when they feel seen, supported, and encouraged to find their own voice.

I’m a qualified English teacher with QTS and a PGCE, specialising in GCSE English Language and Literature, primarily within the AQA specification. Alongside teaching, I also lead on safeguarding, with a strong focus on the wellbeing of young people who may feel overwhelmed, anxious, or under pressure during their exams.
I understand that for many students, English is not simply about passing an exam. Confidence, anxiety, self-esteem, school experiences, and feeling misunderstood can all affect how a student engages with learning. Some students arrive believing they are “bad at English” when, in reality, they’ve never been given the space, structure, or support to feel successful in it.
My approach is calm, relational, and grounded in understanding the individual behind the grades. I work particularly well with students who may be anxious, lacking confidence, emotionally vulnerable, or disengaged from education altogether. I believe progress happens when students feel psychologically safe enough to ask questions, make mistakes, and develop confidence in their own voice.
Academically, my teaching is highly structured and exam-focused. I help students understand exactly what examiners are looking for, how to develop clear analytical writing, and how to approach English in a way that feels manageable rather than intimidating. I focus heavily on building confidence alongside attainment because the two are deeply connected.
Sessions may include:
* breaking down exam questions into manageable steps
* developing essay structure and analytical writing
* improving clarity, expression, and written confidence
* guided support for revision and exam preparation
* strategies for students experiencing exam anxiety or low confidence
* tailored feedback designed to encourage progress without overwhelming students
Parents often tell me their child feels more relaxed, understood, and willing to engage after only a few sessions. For me, that matters just as much as the grade improvement itself.
