About Carol

Hello! I’m Carol. I was born and raised in China and earned my degree from a Teachers University there. My love for the Mandarin language began early, thanks to an inspiring primary school teacher whose beautiful pronunciation and passion for teaching left a lasting impression on me. Her influence helped shape my own path — I was selected as the lead speaker for my middle school’s radio station, where I read news, poetry, and stories to over 1,000 students during lunchtime for six consecutive years.

One of my greatest joys is helping others speak Mandarin clearly, confidently, and beautifully. I believe that language is not just a tool for communication, but also a bridge to culture and connection.

In addition to teaching, I’m an enthusiastic language learner myself. I’ve taught myself Cantonese, Japanese, German and Italian. I find joy and fulfilment in the challenges and rewards of language learning, and I bring that same enthusiasm to my teaching. It always bring immense satisfaction to see my students to improve and succeed on their language journey.

About the lesson

Hi, I’m Carol! I provide online Mandarin Chinese lessons for students of all ages and levels. Every lesson is customized to suit your starting point, interests, pace, and goals — whether you're learning for school, travel, work, or personal growth. Lessons typically run for 1 to 1.5 hours.

My teaching style is conversational, interactive, and enjoyable. I focus on speaking, listening, reading, and writing, using a mix of materials like textbooks, visuals, audio clips, and games to keep things engaging. I believe learning a language should feel natural and fun — not pressured.

I’m known for being patient, encouraging, and humorous. I aim to help you speak Mandarin confidently, clearly, and with cultural understanding.

Specialties:

Young learners: songs, rhymes, games to build language naturally

GCSE & A-Level: exam preparation with an experienced speaking examiner

I used Carol as a tutor, for my 4 children when we returned from living in Hong Kong. All children were at different levels and Carol easily adapted each lesson to suit them.

I would not hesitate in recommending Carol. She is so calm and patient. She is friendly and was very understanding of my daughter who suffers from anxiety. She was able to offer advice and even better, she is a native speaker.

Thank you Carol.

Carol was my tutor for a number of years, before I had to give them up due to the lack of time on my behalf.
Carol is a very good teacher, providing lessons to the requirement of the student, in my case it was more business structured.
I highly recommend Carol to provide Mandarin lessons for every occasion and level, from beginner to expert
