About Jake

Hi, I'm Jake, a qualified NSW primary teacher with a Bachelor of Teaching (Primary) (Honors) and around six years of classroom experience in NSW primary schools.

I now run my own small online tutoring practice, working one-to-one with mainstream and homeschooled students across Australia in math and English. I hold public liability insurance for my tutoring work.

I believe the best progress comes from a genuine one-to-one relationship. I take time to understand how each child thinks, build their confidence, and make learning engaging and enjoyable. I love seeing that moment when a tricky concept finally clicks.

If your child needs to catch up, build confidence or be extended, I'd love to help.

About the lesson

I offer one-to-one online maths lessons for primary students from Kindergarten to Year 6 and beyond, for both mainstream and homeschooled families across Australia.

Topics include number fluency, place value, addition and subtraction strategies, multiplication and division, fractions, decimals, time, measurement and real-world problem solving.

My approach:
- Step-by-step problem solving, with a focus on checking work and clearing up misconceptions
- Students think aloud, and I accept multiple valid strategies rather than one "right way"
- Visual tools such as number lines and breaking numbers into tens and ones
- Incorrect questions are reviewed together before we move on, and new topics are introduced only when your child shows they are ready
- Short brain breaks to keep younger learners focused and engaged

Lessons run online over Zoom and use interactive platforms like Mathspace and IXL, so practice can continue between sessions. Parents receive brief feedback after each lesson.
