About Noel

Empowering your child with clarity, confidence, and lasting academic growth. Hello! I’m Noel Cole, a seasoned online tutor with a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from East Carolina University, certification in Gifted Education K-12, and a master's degree in STEM!!! I also have 34 years of experience guiding students toward mastery and confidence in elementary classrooms, and 3 plus years tutoring privately. I’m passionate about turning complex topics—like fractions or early reading—into engaging, understandable steps that students get. Why You Can Trust Me: Evidence-Backed Approach: I use systematic, explicit instruction—breaking down concepts into clear, manageable chunks. This aligns with modern research in both the “science of math” and the “science of reading” to ensure deep understanding and retention Proven Success with Fractions: I teach fractions as numbers with demonstrable meaning—whether via number lines, manipulatives, or real-life visuals—helping students move from confusion to clarity Reading Foundations Built Right: I incorporate guided shared reading and reciprocal teaching strategies to support early decoding, vocabulary growth, and comprehension Polished, Trustworthy Communication: Every sentence here is meticulously proofread—because I believe dependability starts from the very first message you read. What Makes My Tutoring Unique ** Fractions: Unraveling the Mystery** Concrete-to-Abstract Flow: I begin with manipulatives—fraction bars, Cuisenaire rods, number lines—so students see and feel what ¼ or ⅗ really means Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) Scaffold: Moving from hands-on objects (concrete), to drawings and charts (pictorial), to numeric notation (abstract)—ensuring conceptual depth Visual & Game-Based Learning: I incorporate interactive tools—like fraction games, domino activities, coloring, or movement-based tasks—to reinforce fraction sense while keeping engagement high. Word-Problem Connections: I contextualize operations using everyday scenarios, helping students compare, add, or multiply fractional parts in a meaningful way Ongoing Fluency Building: Frequent mixed warm-ups—such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing the same pair of fractions—boosts flexibility and confidence Multisensory Phonics: When appropriate, I incorporate Orton-Gillingham-based techniques: pairing sounds with visual, auditory, and kinesthetic cues to reinforce decoding—especially beneficial for struggling or dyslexic readers Developmental Reading Judgment: I scaffold reading tasks within each student's Zone of Proximal Development—providing just enough support to help them succeed, then gently fading it as they gain autonomy.

Teaching Method & Techniques

My tutoring philosophy centers on personalized, student-focused learning. I employ a blend of the following strategies:

Diagnostic Assessment: Before initiating sessions, I evaluate each student's current knowledge, learning style, and objectives to tailor the instruction accordingly. This allows me identify areas of strength and needs and tailor a custom program designed to meet the individual needs of your student.

Interactive Instruction: I utilize a mix of direct teaching, guided practice, game playing, and independent exercises to reinforce concepts.

Adaptive Techniques: Recognizing that each student learns differently, I adjust my teaching methods to suit individual needs, ensuring optimal understanding and retention.

Technology Integration: Leveraging digital tools like interactive whiteboards and collaborative platforms, I create an engaging and dynamic online learning environment.

Continuous Feedback: Regular assessments and feedback loops help track progress and address areas needing improvement.
