About Harvey
Hi, I'm Harvey. I hold a BSc in Biomedical Sciences (2:1) from Royal Holloway, University of London, where I studied biochemistry, physiology, cell and molecular biology, genetics and neuroscience, with lab work in every year of the course.
My degree led me into a career in healthcare. I started out supplying surgical equipment to NHS operating theatres, then moved into orthopaedics, working with consultant surgeons on treatments such as ultrasound bone healing and joint injections. Most recently I led a UK clinical service treating alcohol dependence, working with doctors and pharmacists. The service has treated over 6,000 people. Along the way I spent four years on Royal Holloway's Life Sciences advisory board, helping undergraduates prepare for their careers, and I'm a recipient of the Princess Diana Award for community impact.
I want to teach because I've seen first-hand how the science in a textbook shows up in hospitals, clinics and people's lives, and I think students learn best when they can see that too. Whether you're aiming for top grades, a place at university or a future career in medicine or healthcare, I'd love to help you get there with confidence.

I'm Harvey, a Biomedical Sciences graduate (BSc, 2:1, Royal Holloway, University of London), and I've spent most of the last ten years working in healthcare. I've worked alongside consultant surgeons and nurses across the NHS and private hospitals, and I've led a clinical treatment service with doctors and pharmacists on the team. I bring that real-world experience into every lesson, so science stops being a list of facts to memorise and starts to make sense.
How I teach
Every student starts with a short chat about where they are, what they find hard and what they're aiming for. I then explain each topic in plain English, step by step, and link it to real examples: how a medicine works on receptors in the brain, how a broken bone heals, how doctors use tests to diagnose disease. Once an idea clicks, we practise exam-style questions and go through mark schemes together, so you learn how to turn what you know into marks. My degree included lab work every year and a final-year research project, which helps with required practicals and data questions. Each lesson ends with a quick recap and a clear plan for what to work on next. No question is too basic.
Who the lessons are for
GCSE and A-level Biology and Combined Science, plus university students who want support with biomedical and life science modules.
Experience
For four years I sat on Royal Holloway's Life Sciences advisory board, speaking at careers events and helping undergraduates prepare for life after their degree. I've also trained and mentored new starters in the teams I've led.
