About Mahya
I’m Mahya! I’m a Psychology Master’s graduate with 19 years of experience as a chess player and over five years of experience as a chess coach. I started playing chess at the age of seven and have remained actively involved in the game ever since, both as a competitive player and as a coach.
I currently play for several chess teams in London and regularly participate in leagues and tournaments. Over the years, chess has become an important part of both my personal and professional life, helping me develop strong strategic thinking, discipline, resilience, and decision-making skills. My extensive experience as both a player and a coach has given me a deep understanding of the game and the ability to work with players of different ages, skill levels, and backgrounds.

My lessons are designed for beginner and intermediate players of all ages and are tailored to each student’s level, goals, and learning style. I focus on building a strong understanding of chess through clear explanations, practical exercises, puzzles, and game analysis.
Depending on the student’s needs, lessons may cover opening principles, tactics, strategic planning, checkmating patterns, endgames, and decision-making during games. I also help students identify their strengths and areas for improvement by reviewing their games and creating a personalised learning plan.
My teaching style is supportive, patient, and interactive. With my background in psychology, I understand that every learner develops differently, so I adapt each lesson to help students stay focused, motivated, and confident. Lessons are available online and in person in London.
