About Edward
I have over five years' experience of teaching art history, which has spanned several full time and part time roles that I have held in three leading universities: The University of St Andrews, The University of Edinburgh, and UCL. During this time, I have taught people from a wide array of backgrounds in postgraduate, undergraduate, and widening participation courses. My pedagogical expertise is officially recognised by my status as an Associate Fellow of Advance HE.
Most recently, I was employed as an Associate Lecturer in Modern & Contemporary Art in the School of Art History at the University of St Andrews, which was ranked 2nd in the United Kingdom for the subject in the 2025 Complete University Guide. I am now tutoring on a freelance basis while developing my research. Although I am especially interested in the relationship between art and climate change, I am confident tutoring on any period or subject in art history and have experience of teaching on a wide range of modules including: 'Art History and Environmental Crisis', 'Approaches to Art History', 'The Cultures and Politics of Display', 'An Introduction to Modern and Contemporary Art', 'Art, Culture, and Politics, from 1900 to Now', 'Modernity, Empire, and Revolution: Art from 1789–1900', 'European Art and Architecture in the 17th and 18th Centuries', and 'Art in Europe and Beyond to 1600'.

My approach to teaching is flexible, as I design each class to align with the needs of the student. I am well-qualified to provide feedback on essays and dissertations, and can I discuss assignments and clarify topics that students are struggling with via online lessons. I have an Enhanced DBS Certificate which I am happy to share on request.

Edward is a highly personable and supportive tutor who I've known for over 8 years, since my undergraduate degree. He has a diverse range of knowledge across many topics in art, philosophy, and literature. I'd say that one of his key strengths is making complex ideas easy to digest. Overall he is an inspiring teacher who is compassionate towards his students and works 'with' them rather than just 'teaching' them. I would recommend him if you need help on proofreading, essays, dissertations etc. in the field of art history, curation, museum studies and contemporary art.
Edward has extensive experience as a professional Art History tutor and has unanimously received positive reviews for his classes. As a fellow art historian, I can testify to his ability in this role.
