About Alison
Hi, I'm Alison! With 7 years in higher education in the humanities, I know what teachers and professors look for in successful written work. At Stanford, I graduated with a BA in Religious Studies and Philosophy—earning Phi Beta Kappa and University Distinction. I then earned two Masters at the University of Oxford. Over the years, I have honed excellent research and writing skills that I am excited to share with you!
My tutoring approach aims to create a positive and productive experience. I have 4+ years of experience of tutoring at both the high school and collegiate level in a variety of humanities subjects. I also have more than 4 years of professional and extracurricular experience as a copyeditor for a range of mediums. Whether your goal is improving grades, learning new skills, or gaining self-confidence, I am here to help!

I specialize in academic writing in the humanities. My tutoring sessions are uniquely tailored to meet my tutee's writing goals and support them wherever they are in the process. As a result, I offer both longer-term and one-off support. For long-term support, I guide clients through the whole essay writing process from start to finish. In this case, I normally ask clients to send over a copy of their most recent work to get a sense of their strengths and weaknesses. I then meet with them over 2-3 sessions as needed to walk them through brainstorming, argumentative structures, and eventually editing and proofreading.
I am also happy to provide one-off sessions wherever you are in the process--whether that be idea-generating or editing and proofreading to polish up language, grammar, and structure as needed.
