About Deron
I’ve played chess since grade school, competing in local, state, and national tournaments. On Chess.com, I rank in the Top 1% in Puzzles, Top 0.3% in Daily Chess, and Top 5% overall (≈1800 strength). I currently coach 15 students ages 5–12 through an after-school program in Northern New Jersey, along with private and classroom instruction. My teaching focuses on making chess engaging and approachable while developing tactical awareness, strategic thinking, confidence, discipline, and strong decision-making skills.

I offer personalized chess lessons for students of all levels, from complete beginners to experienced competitive players. Each session is tailored to the student and designed to build tactical awareness, strategic thinking, pattern recognition, and confident gameplay.
Rates:
• Virtual Lessons: $60/session
• In-Person Lessons: Starting at $80/session
• Classroom/Group Sessions: Pricing based on group size and format
In-person pricing reflects travel and location and is confirmed before scheduling.
During lessons, we focus on practical improvement through game analysis, targeted drills, opening fundamentals, tactics, and decision-making. Students who want faster progress can also receive optional homework and structured practice recommendations.
Bonus Challenge: Beat me in a lesson game and earn $5 back for that session! It is a fun way to stay motivated, competitive, and put your improving skills to the test.
