About Alexis
Hi! I'm Alexis. I can help you navigate the humanities --especially Latin and academic writing. I know things can get daunting and overwhelming in these subjects but I'm here to break it down for you. If you struggle with Latin grammar for instance, I can guide you through a sentence word by word. If you find it hard to make sense (not to mention an essay!) out of some lofty poem your English teacher assigned, I can teach you how to identify concrete literary devices and explain their effects.
I have studied Latin for 6 years. In addition, I have a 5 on the AP Latin and a 1590 on the SATs (scoring a full 800 on the Evidence Based Reading and Writing section).

In Latin ,can guide students from Latin 1 up to AP Latin through their coursework; I can also prepare annotated & glossed readings for students who want to explore certain themes in antiquity, or advanced beyond the AP curriculum.
I can teach specific skills like writing for the AP, identifying literary devices, scansion, and training for academic competitions (specifically Certamen). I am also familiar with most of the textbooks used in the US (Wheelock's, Cambridge Latin Course, Oxford Latin Course, Ludus, Lingua Latina per se Illustrata).
In English, I can tutor students in Academic writing. I can proofread student essays for style and grammar; in addition I can tutor evidence based essay writing, which can come in handy on AP English Literature and various AP History subjects (World History, US History, Human Geography) which involves Document Based Questions.
