About Gus
I have taught Maths and Physics in secondary and further education for over 35 years. This includes all levels from KS2 to A level for all examination boards. My experiences are with a wide range of abilities from those struggling to understand the basic concepts in Maths or Physics to A* students at Advanced level. I have also taught many mature students returning to education after a long period away. On occasions I have prepared students for basic numeracy exams to gain entry to a teacher training course or the armed services. I have also tutored parents who have required help in order to educate their own children at home or with their school work.

I am patient, friendly, enthusiastic and methodical in my approach to tutoring and try to instil confidence in my tutees as quickly as possible. I am flexible in my teaching methods and adapt my pace of delivery to the needs and ability of my tutees. I am happy to work with a tutee to explain and reinforce the ideas behind the current topics that they are studying in school or college so they are able to keep up with their classwork. One of the worst fears amongst students especially in Maths is falling behind the rest of their peer group and not understanding the work as well as everyone else. When I am satisfied that my tutee is able to cope with their current work then I often revise topics to ensure they do not forget past work. Both Maths and Physics require development of skills that constantly need practice. When it is close to tests or exams I will focus on exam questions so that tutees are aware of the standard required for the grade they are aiming to achieve.

Gus has been kind and very patient when teaching all three of my children. He is an excellent teacher and has helped them all to achieve top grades in GCSE. Two of my children then chose to do A level Maths and he helped both of them to achieve very good grades. For tutees who invite Gus into their home please ensure that you have a good supply of biscuits to go with his cup of tea.
Gus taught me when I was at school and without his help I would not have achieved the grade in Maths I needed to get into teacher training many years ago. When my eldest John was ten I felt he needed more support with his Maths. I managed to track down Gus as he still lived in the local area and he is now teaching all three of my children. They are all much more confident in Maths with his help. He is very patient and explains Maths very clearly. The children really like him and I cannot recommend him more highly.
