My name is Jordan Fernandez. I am a college student at University of Northern Colorado! My major is English Secondary Education with endorsement in CLD for EL learners and a minor in Special Education. I will graduate in May, 2029! Objective: Students will explore personal voice and emotional resonance through character-driven writing.
Materials:
Excerpts from The House on Mango Street or Speak
Writing journals

Warm-up: 5-minute freewrite on “a moment I almost said something but didn’t”
Mini-lesson: What makes a voice distinct? (tone, rhythm, vulnerability)
Read sample excerpts and annotate for voice
Write a 1-page monologue from a fictional character’s POV during a moment of emotional tension

2. Essay Writing – “Thesis as Anchor”
