I like to use different methods like
Word Detective
Give students a short text or paragraph.
Their mission:
• Circle new or tricky words
• Underline word patterns (like sh, ea, tion)
• Guess the meaning using clues
This builds decoding + comprehension naturally.
2. Build the Word (hands-on spelling)
Students use:
• Letter cards
• Bottle caps with letters
• Paper tiles
• Or magnetic letters
They physically construct the word, change letters, and see how meaning changes:
cat → cap → map → mop
This locks spelling into memory.
4. Say it – Tap it – Write it – Check it
For every word:
1. Say the word
2. Tap each sound
3. Write it
4. Check with a partner
