About Harvey

Hi, I'm Harvey and I'm a third-year Physics student, studying towards an integrated master's degree, with A-Levels in Physics, Mathematics, and English Literature. I want to teach because I know how much difference it makes to have someone explain things patiently and in a way that actually makes sense, rather than just repeating the textbook.

Patience is central to how I work. I've spent time supervising and communicating with children and families in previous roles, so I'm used to staying calm, adapting my explanations, and never rushing someone for needing something repeated. I build personalised lesson plans around each student's specific goals, whether that's exam prep, filling gaps, or building confidence in a subject that's felt intimidating. I've also planned and organised events as Social Secretary of my university's Physics Society, so I'm comfortable structuring sessions and keeping things on track.

This is a new step for me as a tutor, but I bring genuine subject knowledge, real patience, and a commitment to making every lesson count.

I'd keep lessons relaxed and led by the student rather than rigidly following a script. Everyone learns differently, so I'd build a personalised lesson plan for each student based on where they're at and what they're struggling with, rather than working through a generic syllabus. If a student needed longer on a topic, we'd take longer.

Patience is something I'd bring into every lesson. I've spent time working with children and families in a previous role, which taught me a lot about staying calm, explaining things a different way when the first explanation doesn't land, and not making anyone feel bad for needing something repeated. I'd carry that same mindset into tutoring, since everyone should be able to go at their own pace.

I'd lean on worked examples and past papers, breaking down problems step by step so students can see the reasoning, not just the answer. I'd also check understanding regularly through short questions rather than waiting until the end of a topic to find out something hasn't stuck.

I'd suggest lessons of one to two hours, depending on the student and the topic. That way there is enough time to review previous work, cover new material, and work through practice questions properly without rushing.

I don't have formal tutoring experience yet, but I bring strong subject knowledge and plenty of relevant transferable skills. I'm currently in my third year at the University of Kent, studying towards an integrated master's degree in Physics, having achieved A-Levels in Physics, Mathematics, and English Literature. Through several customer-facing roles, including working directly with children in a supervisory capacity, I've built up experience communicating clearly and patiently with people of different ages and needs. As Social Secretary for the university's Physics Society, I've also planned and organised structured activities, which I think translates well into planning lessons.

I'd be looking to tutor GCSE and A-Level students in Physics, Mathematics, and English, particularly those who'd benefit from more one-to-one attention than they get in a classroom setting, or who need concepts broken down more slowly and clearly.
