About Isabella
I am currently an English undergraduate at UCL, having achieved an A* and full marks in my A Level English Literature examinations. I have a real passion for literature and creative writing and am eager to help students find their own love for the subject as I believe English is truly a subject where there is something for everyone to enjoy.
I love languages and am currently in my second year of studying Mandarin as well as being an avid member of my university Film Society, something I often utilise in my lessons with my A level students!
Remember that in English there are no 'wrong' answers, just unsubstantiated arguments. That is where I am able to help!

Structured & Personalised Lessons
I believe the best tutoring is tailored to the individual student. I plan each lesson carefully around your needs, goals and current level, and I can provide lesson plans in advance so that students know what to expect and can prepare for the lesson.
At the beginning of our lessons, I use an unseen passage assessment to understand your current strengths and areas for development. We can then discuss your aims, whether you are preparing for GCSE or A Level examinations, working on a particular text, or simply looking to become more confident with English.
Building Confidence & Exam Technique
A major focus of my teaching is helping students understand how to turn their ideas into strong written answers. Sometimes students understand a text perfectly well but struggle with knowing how to structure their response to an exam question.
I therefore teach clear, straightforward approaches to paragraph and essay structure, helping students develop their analysis while learning how to communicate their ideas effectively. I can also provide targeted support with exam preparation, assessment objectives and exam technique.
GCSE & A Level | Major UK Exam Boards
I have experience working with a range of UK examination systems, including:
AQA
Edexcel
OCR
IGCSE
I can adapt lessons to the requirements of your particular specification and focus on the areas that will be most beneficial to you.
From Shakespeare to Contemporary Literature
I have a broad knowledge of English and Classical literature and can teach a wide variety of texts, those I have taught in the past include;
- The works of Shakespeare
- Homer's Odyssey and Iliad
- Virgil's Aeneid
- American authors such as John Steinbeck, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Richard Wright.
- Drama such as Henrik Ibsen and Tennessee Williams
- Early Feminist writers such as Austen, Brontë and Wollstonecraft
...and many more
Whether you need help with close textual analysis, understanding a difficult passage, developing contextual knowledge or preparing an essay, I can tailor our lessons to your specific text and requirements.
English, History & Classics
Alongside English Literature, I also have A levels in History and Classics (both at A*), which gives me a strong grounding in the historical, cultural and classical contexts that can be important when studying literature.
I can therefore help students develop not only their textual analysis but also the contextual understanding needed to produce sophisticated literary arguments.
Five Years of Tutoring Experience
I have been tutoring for five years, working with students of different ages, abilities and academic goals. My approach is adaptable, empathetic and encouraging — I understand that every student learns differently, and I will always tailor my lessons to the individual.
What I Can Help With
Whether you are looking to:
Prepare for GCSE or A Level examinations
Improve essay and paragraph structure
Develop stronger close-reading and analytical skills
Understand a difficult text
Improve exam technique
Develop your confidence with English Literature
Explore literature beyond the requirements of your course
…I will work with you to create lessons that are clear, structured, supportive and tailored to your goals.

Isabella helped to tutor me throughout my English A Level. She is a dedicated and wonderful teacher who always went above and beyond to make sure I excelled in my studies!
Bella was an amazing tutor who made even the most challenging parts of the course feel more manageable, and her detailed feedback and encouragement gave me much more confidence in my ability, enabling me to achieve the grade that I wanted.
