About Maria
Hi, I’m Maria! I’m a UCL graduate with a BA in Ancient World (Classics), and I currently work in a management role in the construction industry.
I’ve always particularly enjoyed subjects that involve writing, analysis and understanding different perspectives, especially English and History. I know that these subjects can sometimes feel overwhelming when it comes to essays and exams, so I’d love to help students break things down, organise their thoughts and become more confident in their own ability.
I’m naturally patient, approachable and easy to talk to, and I believe learning is much easier when you feel comfortable asking questions and getting things wrong along the way. My aim is to create relaxed, supportive lessons while still making sure we’re working towards clear academic goals.
I want to tutor because I genuinely enjoy helping people understand things that initially seem complicated, and I’d find it really rewarding to see a student become more confident and independent over time.

My lessons are tailored to the individual student and the areas where they need the most support. I focus on helping students understand how to approach a question, organise their ideas and communicate them clearly, rather than simply memorising model answers.
For English, I can support students with reading and comprehension, language and literary analysis, essay planning and structure, written expression, and exam technique. I particularly enjoy helping students develop stronger arguments and become more confident in their writing.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes and can be adapted around the student’s current schoolwork, upcoming assessments or particular areas they would like to improve.
I graduated from University College London (UCL) with a BA in Ancient World (Classics), a humanities degree involving extensive analytical reading, research, source interpretation and academic essay writing. My professional career also involves producing and reviewing detailed written documentation and communicating complex information clearly to different audiences.
My lessons are aimed primarily at KS3 and GCSE students, including students who want to strengthen their general English skills as well as those preparing for examinations.
