About Steven
I am an incoming UCLA freshman with a strong background in English, writing, communication, leadership, and coaching. I have taken AP-level English classes and built strong skills in essay writing, reading analysis, argument, rhetoric, and persuasive communication. I recently went through the college application process myself, so I understand how stressful essays and personal statements can feel when students are trying to express their ideas clearly and authentically.
A big part of my learning came not only from teachers, but also from teaching myself. There were times when a concept did not fully click from the way it was explained in class, so I had to find different ways to understand it. That helped me learn how to approach the same skill from multiple angles. Because of that, I am comfortable adjusting how I explain something until it makes sense for the student.
Outside the classroom, I have spent years as a captain and coach, which taught me how to communicate clearly, motivate others, and adapt to different learning styles. Coaching helped me learn how to break complicated skills into simple steps, give useful feedback, and help people improve without overwhelming them.
I also have experience with public speaking, leadership, and persuasion in both team and academic settings. I know how to help students organize their thoughts, strengthen their arguments, and communicate with more clarity and confidence.

My lessons are built around the student first. I start by identifying what they need help with, what they are struggling to understand, and what goal they want to reach. From there, I figure out how they learn best. Some students need examples, some need step-by-step structure, some need visuals, some need discussion, and some need practice until the skill starts to feel natural.
I do not believe one teaching style works for everyone. I try different approaches and see what the student responds to best. If one explanation does not click, I adjust. I may use outlines, examples, simple formulas, guided questions, practice exercises, sample paragraphs, or live editing depending on what helps most.
A typical lesson may include identifying the problem, reviewing an assignment or draft, building a plan, practicing the skill together, and ending with clear next steps or homework. My goal is not just to fix one assignment. My goal is to help students become more confident, independent, and capable learners. I can adjust each lesson in real time so we keep moving toward what matters most: helping the student actually understand and improve.
My lessons are best for high school students, especially those working on essays, English assignments, reading comprehension, creative writing, speeches, or college application writing. I also work with middle school students who want to build stronger writing habits, improve reading skills, and become more confident before high school.

Not only is Steven my coach on the team. But he kindly advised and helped me on my college application writing process. He is incredibly skilled at narrowing down my goals, forming a vision and story, and eloquently executing it in the form of an essay. He is very patient, constantly improvising to see where the writing can improve, and gives amazing tips and tricks that help my English as a whole.
