About Haoyi
I’m a professional musical theater performer, actor, and teaching artist with a BFA in Musical Theater from the University of Michigan, one of the country’s leading musical theater programs.
As a performer, I’ve worked professionally across New York, Los Angeles, and regional theater, with credits including New York City Center, East West Players, Bucks County Playhouse, and Scranton Shakespeare Festival. My experience spans musical theater, acting, singing, dance, and on-camera work, so I understand both the artistic and practical sides of preparing for auditions and working professionally.
I’m also an experienced teaching artist and director. I’ve taught Acting Through Song, musical theater, singing, acting, and dance, and have worked with students preparing for college musical theater programs and auditions.
Originally from China and now working professionally in the U.S., I’m fluent in both English and Mandarin and am happy to teach bilingually. I especially enjoy helping students build confidence, discover their individuality, and become more truthful and expressive storytellers.

My lessons are personalized to each student’s goals, whether you’re preparing for a musical theater or acting audition, working on a song or monologue, building confidence as a performer, or simply exploring acting and singing for the first time.
I believe strong musical theater performance comes from connecting acting, voice, and movement rather than treating them as separate skills. In a typical lesson, we may work on acting technique, text and character analysis, acting through song, vocal performance, movement, and audition preparation. My goal is not to give you one “correct” way to perform, but to help you make clear, specific choices and discover what makes you unique as an artist.
For audition coaching, I can also help with song and monologue selection, college musical theater auditions, self-tapes, callbacks, and audition strategy.
Lessons are open to beginners through advanced performers and can be taught in English, Mandarin, or bilingually, depending on what makes you most comfortable. Each lesson is tailored to your experience, goals, and learning style.
