About Ian
I'm a recent master of physics graduate, looking to tutor in and around the Sheffield area. I'm confident, calm and patient when I'm teaching, giving help and nudging the student towards the right answers, but I won't provide the answers on a plate. My philosophy is that the best way to learn is by doing and failure is nothing to be afraid of - it's the best way to learn. Through my own experiences, I find the best to answer questions is understanding the fundamentals well and quickly identifying which method is needed when dealing with particular types of questions; most of these questions are repeated in national exams with just a few numbers and parameters changed.
I have limited previous experience tutoring children whilst in sixth form at my school and I also volunteered for 6 years at a children club, giving me extensive experience working with children between 7 and 16 years old.
The best way to prepare me for a session is to provide me with the areas you feel weakest on and I'll try to find material around this to help you improve. It would also be useful to provide the exam boards for the subjects you want tutoring on but this is not necessary. Extra questions and informal homework can be provided but it is often better to learn by exploring problems by yourself finding those with topics that interest you - I am of course happy to look over these and mark them.
