About Ido
Hi! I’m Ido, a native Korean speaker currently studying at the University of Auckland. I’m fluent in both Korean and English, so I can comfortably explain Korean expressions, grammar, and cultural differences in English whenever needed.
I have previous tutoring experience and enjoy creating a friendly and relaxed environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and actually speaking Korean.
Having lived and studied in both Korean and New Zealand environments, I’m familiar with both cultures and can help you understand not only what a Korean expression means, but also when, why, and how native speakers actually use it.
Whether you’re learning Korean for travel, university, Korean friends, culture, or simply because you enjoy the language, I’ll tailor the lessons to your level, interests, and personal goals.
I’d love to help you become more confident and natural in Korean!

Beginner Korean • Everyday Conversation • Real-Life Korean • Korean Culture • Intermediate & Advanced Conversation
All levels welcome — complete beginners to advanced learners.
My lessons are personalised according to your Korean level, goals, and interests. Rather than only memorising grammar from a textbook, I focus on helping you understand and use Korean naturally in real situations.
● BEGINNER KOREAN
If you are completely new to Korean, we can start from the very beginning.
We can learn:
• Hangul (the Korean alphabet)
• Pronunciation and reading
• Basic sentence structures
• Essential vocabulary
• Numbers, dates, time, and everyday expressions
• Simple speaking and listening practice
The lessons will progress step by step, so no previous Korean knowledge is required.
● EVERYDAY & REAL-LIFE KOREAN
For students who already know some Korean, we can focus on the Korean that people actually use in everyday life.
Topics may include:
• Natural conversation and useful vocabulary
• Making Korean friends and socialising
• Casual vs polite Korean
• Texting and common online expressions
• Ordering food, shopping, travelling, and daily life
• Korean university and school life
• Expressions that sound more natural than textbook Korean
We can also practise realistic situations together so you have plenty of opportunities to speak rather than only listen.
● KOREAN CULTURE & POP CULTURE
Language and culture are closely connected, so lessons can also include topics you are personally interested in.
For example:
• Korean social culture and etiquette
• University and student life
• Food and everyday lifestyle
• Korean music and entertainment
• Current slang and popular expressions
• Cultural meanings behind certain words and phrases
You can even choose topics you would like to talk about in class.
● INTERMEDIATE & ADVANCED KOREAN
For more confident Korean speakers, lessons can focus heavily on conversation and sounding more natural.
A lesson may include a 10–15 minute conversation entirely in Korean. Afterwards, we can review:
• Unnatural sentences or expressions
• Grammar and pronunciation
• Vocabulary you were missing while speaking
• More natural ways to express your ideas
• Alternative words and expressions native speakers would use
We can also read Korean books, articles, lyrics, or other texts together, build more advanced vocabulary, and discuss different topics entirely in Korean.
A typical lesson is around 60 minutes, but the content and pace will always be adjusted to your individual level and goals.
