About Susie

As a foreigner myself, I completely understand the challenges of the French language. I am a secondary Creative Arts and ESL teacher, but after spending 20 years living and working in France, I fell in love with the French language, culture, and way of life. Whilst running a Real Estate Agency in the South of France, I found myself helping out my foreign clients with improving their French. This turned into group lessons and bi-lingual conversation evenings with my English clients and French students and it snowballed from there. On returning to Australia in 2013 my high school needed a French teacher, so I did that for 7 years. During my time in France I worked as a language teacher at several schools in the South and over 10 years at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Carcassonne. I also co-managed my own small language school and worked as an illustrator for a an ecological magazine. I have taught over a wide range of ages and levels but my passion remains the same - I love helping people succeed and giving them the tools and motivation they need to get where they want to go with their language learning - whether it be French or English.

About the lesson

One of my passions is teaching French conversation and French for travel to adults, and helping people discover that they can actually communicate and have fun at the same time ! Most adult learners of French lack confidence and are afraid to speak, for fear of making mistakes or not being understood. If this is you, I can help!
My lessons are relevant and fun, and they will arm you with the basic structures necessary to communicate and be understood in French.
The content of my lessons are always centred around the needs of the student - ordering in a cafe, asking directions, checking in at your hotel. In order to improve, students need to actually use the language and build their confidence. I always base my lessons on an initial needs analysis ie why do you want lessons or tutoring, what is your goal? - then I plan the lessons around that - so the course is tailor made for you! I enjoy helping students to succeed, regardless of their level.
Why not come and join me!

From the very first evening I was hooked. Susie is a fabulous teacher who understands that secretly adults want fun! And that fun encourages learning. Lots of activities that allowed both the beginner and experienced level participant to enjoy the experience. I have no hesitation in recommending Susie.

Susie was my French teacher when we were both living in France.
I had a number of French teachers before Susie, but she was my best teacher by a mile! She made her lessons fun, interesting & easy. Her ability to understand my weaknesses as well as my strengths allowed for me to learn quickly. I always looked forward to our lessons and especially the outings we had to the market and the cafes so I could practice speaking. Susie has the patience of a saint! I can't recommend Susie highly enough!

We purchased a house in the South of France and wanted to be able to mix and converse with the French people in our village. Susie was able to provide us initially with face to face, then more recently, online French conversation lessons that were always well structured, informative and enjoyable. I can highly recommend her as a French Language Tutor.
