About Anna
I strive to work one-on-one, closely with each student.
As a college student and having recently graduated from high school, I know how important it can be to bond with the student I'm working with. My favorite teachers in high school were the ones who not only taught us, but also tried to form meaningful connections with every one of their students. I've also found that with a connection, students learn better and feel more comfortable communicating their preferences and/or when they don't understand.
Though I may be young compared to other tutors, I don't see that as a weakness. In fact, I see it more as a strength. I'd be able to relate to younger students better, as well as others around my age. In my past experiences tutoring, having that connection allows me to better assess the student's needs and for them to more effectively communicate with me.
I love working individually with students and catering toward their needs; every student is different and unique in their own way, and the way I tutor them should reflect that.
I take satisfaction in knowing that I'm always contributing to my community and helping other students succeed the best they can.
Throughout high school, I've had some wonderful teachers who have not only taught me well, but have also inspired me to be more passionate about learning. Those teachers always took their time, made sure everyone understood, and weren't scared to take time after class or after school to just get to know their students better or further discuss class topics. I wanted to do something similar. In my friend group, all our strengths complement each other. Thus, through high school, we often tutor each other in subjects we're each lacking in, making for an efficient system. In the past year though, I decided to branch out more and begin tutoring other people at my high school who needed help in courses and topics I was familiar in. I aim to bring the same energy my favorite teachers brought to class to my tutoring sessions.
In high school, I ran a club that brought STEM events to low-income schools in my community. We'd often go into classrooms during the school day with engaging lessons we prepared ourselves and teach students. I have experience working with students K-12, and have developed lessons to fit different age groups.
Additionally, as first a news writer then an online managing editor for my award-winning high school newspaper, The Black & White, I have extensive experience in working with students better their writing. As an editor, I'd often spend 20 hours a week, on top of my workload from school, editing and ensuring angles for stories were solid. I believe my experience on the paper makes me especially qualified to tutor students in English and writing.
I've also taken various AP courses, including AP BC Calculus, AP English Language, AP English Literature, AP Micro and AP Macroeconomics, AP US Government and Politics, and AP Comparative Politics.
I also tutored high school students in a variety of subjects, including calculus, English, and various other history/government subjects.

I would aim to get to know them first. Not only what their strengths and weaknesses are, but also who they are as a person. By doing so, I aim to form a connection with the student, which I've found leads to more productive sessions later on.
I've worked mostly with elementary, middle, and high school students, but I see myself as very flexible and can adapt to students of all ages.
I'm a huge fan of women's soccer! I love watching NWSL teams (especially the Washington Spirit!) and the US Women's National team play.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
1. What is their working style? Do they prefer to work for an hour straight? Or do they prefer to take breaks every now and then to soak in the content and process for a bit?
2. Do they know what they've struggled in the past with? That can be anything from having trouble following along in class due to the speed of the class, unable to focus doing homework by themselves, etc.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Anna was very patient with me and she always went above and beyond in her efforts to help me understand. She often stayed overtime with me to ensure I understood the concepts, and was always available over text for additional questions. One of the best tutors I have ever worked with! So kind and patient and overall just a great person!

Right now, I charge $20-25/hr for sessions over Zoom. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I won't be travelling to houses or have students come to mine to ensure both my safety and the client's safety.
I'm also willing to do group sessions with students ($15/hr per student, minimum of two students), such as a book/article club, helping develop skills in close reading and critical thinking.
