Hi! My name is Glendon, my students usually call me sir G, and after spending 26 years in the classroom, I have learned that the best teaching doesn't happen when a teacher lectures at a student, but when we think with the student.
My Teaching Approach & Techniques:
I rely heavily on a relaxed, modern version of the Socratic Method. Instead of forcing you to memorize dry definitions, I ask open-ended questions and use real-world scenarios. We will take a dense concept from your syllabus and connect it to current events, pop culture, or daily life. When it comes to Essay Writing and Critical Thinking, my technique is highly practical. I break down argument-building into simple, visual blocks so you can see exactly how to structure an introduction, body, and conclusion without getting overwhelmed.
A Typical 60-Minute Lesson Plan:
Every session is structured but flexible enough to adapt to how you are feeling that day:
• First 5 Minutes (The Check-In): We chat about your week. Did a specific topic in school confuse you? Did you get a paper back? We align on today's goal.
• Next 15 Minutes (The Breakthrough): I introduce one specific, core concept (like a theory in UCSP or a logic rule) using simple language and everyday examples.
• Next 25 Minutes (The Deep Dive): This is interactive. We look at a text, an essay prompt, or a case study together. We brainstorm, map out points, and practice analyzing the idea.
• Next 10 Minutes (Practical Application): You try it out. We write a practice thesis statement or draft a paragraph together so you gain immediate confidence.
• Last 5 Minutes (The Wrap-Up): We summarize what we learned, and I give you a clear, stress-free takeaway to think about before our next session.
What Sets Me Apart:
What sets me apart is the unique blend of deep academic training and genuine classroom warmth. I have completed all master’s coursework in philosophy and 48 doctoral units in educational management, but I don’t bring a rigid, intimidating university attitude to our sessions. I know the exact pain points of senior high and college students because I see them every day. I know how to coach you through academic anxiety, and I treat you as an equal partner in learning.
Who These Lessons Are For:
My lessons are specifically designed for:
• Senior High School Students struggling to pass or excel in core subjects like Introduction to the Philosophy of the Human Person, UCSP, Personal Development, and Life & Career Skills.
• College Undergraduates who need a mentor to help them sharpen their critical thinking, understand complex philosophical frameworks (Ethics, Existentialism, Political Philosophy), or write high-scoring academic essays.
• Lifelong Learners & Adults who want to explore practical philosophy as a tool for personal growth, career transitions, and understanding human relationships.
I always give a free 30-minute chat for our very first meeting. No pressure at all—we will just look over your school syllabus or personal goals, see if we are a good fit for each other, and map out a simple, stress-free plan to help you succeed. We can do our classes online through Zoom or Google Meet, whichever is easier for you!
