About Anna
Hello, I’m Anna. I’m a native Greek tutor from Corfu with 25 years of private teaching experience, and I have lived and worked in England for over two decades.
My background is in languages and communication. I studied French at the French Institute and later French and Italian at the Open University, including modules in linguistics, and I am TEFL-certified. I have also studied Health and Social Care and completed awareness training in Dyslexia, Autism, SEN, and speech and language development. My work has also included translating books from Greek into English, an experience that further developed my awareness of the nuances between the two languages.
Over the last 25 years, I have taught children, teenagers and adults from many different backgrounds, levels and walks of life. That experience has taught me something no single teaching method can: people learn languages differently. I don’t use stiff scripts or a one-size-fits-all approach. I adapt the lesson, explanations and pace to the person in front of me.
Living between Greek and English language and culture for so many years also means I understand where the two languages meet — and where they absolutely don’t! I explain Greek in clear, everyday English, making its patterns and structures easier to understand without burying students in unnecessary academic terminology.
For me, Greek is not simply a collection of grammar rules and vocabulary. It is a living language, full of humour, rhythm, expression, culture and everyday life. I want my students to understand not only what Greeks say, but how and why we say it.
You may be starting from zero, returning to Greek after a long break, or rebuilding foundations that never quite felt secure. We start from where you are and progress at a pace that allows you to genuinely understand, practise and retain the language.
My aim is to help you build real Greek from the foundations upwards — without pressure, without rushing, and without the “tourist Greek” shortcuts that may get you through a holiday but won’t teach you the language.

Teaching Style & Lessons
I teach Greek as a language that builds from one stage to the next. Strong foundations matter: pronunciation, articles, gender, endings and basic sentence patterns all affect what comes later. Rather than jumping between unrelated topics or memorising lists of phrases, we build each new piece of the language onto something you already understand.
A typical lesson begins with a short review of what we covered previously. This gives us a chance to revisit anything that hasn't quite settled yet before moving forward. We then introduce or develop the next part of the language through clear explanations, practical examples and guided practice.
As your Greek develops, we gradually bring together vocabulary, grammar, listening, reading and conversation. The aim is not simply to complete an exercise correctly, but to understand why Greek works the way it does and eventually use it naturally and independently.
I adapt both the pace and the lesson to the student in front of me. Some learners need more repetition before moving on; others recognise patterns very quickly and are ready for the next stage sooner. We move forward when the foundations are secure, rather than following a rigid timetable or a one-size-fits-all programme.
I prepare my own teaching materials, including notes, examples, exercises, slides and flashcards, based on what we are actually studying together. I don't rely on random generic worksheets or simply work through a textbook from page one to the end. Your materials develop alongside your own progress.
Lessons take place through Google Meet. We also use Google Drive, shared documents, Google Slides and simple flashcards, so your notes and materials remain organised and accessible between lessons.
Greek culture and everyday life are naturally part of the language too. I teach Greek as people actually use it — with its humour, expressions, habits and little cultural details.
Greece is not just Mykonos, Santorini, sun and sea. Those things belong in brochures. Real Greece is the people, the conversations, the small habits, the anxieties, the kindness and the imperfections — and all of that finds its way into our lessons.
I don’t teach rushed lessons.
I don’t teach shortcuts.
I don’t teach phrase-book Greek.
I teach students who want to understand how Greek works and build a language they can genuinely use.
Trial Lesson
The trial lesson is a relaxed conversation where we get to know each other. There is no formal test and no pressure. We talk about why you want to learn Greek, any previous experience you have with the language, what you hope to achieve and how you like to learn.
Through our conversation, I can get an initial sense of your level and identify areas we may need to explore further. If you are a complete beginner, that's absolutely fine too — we simply start at the beginning.
I'll explain how I structure lessons, show you the kinds of materials we use and answer any questions you have. You will also get a feel for my teaching style and the way I explain Greek.
The trial works both ways. It gives us a chance to meet, talk and decide if we are a good fit for working together. There is no obligation to continue.

Anna is very attentive. She organises her lessons according to what I want to learn. Very kind and patient.

She is extremely patient, very reliable and always goes the extra mile for her students (providing extra material to work with, etc.). I reccomend her if you want to perfect your Greek or even if you are a complete beginner who is just starting out.
Anna is a great teacher and I really enjoy my lessons with her. Anna makes you feel comfortable and safe to speak especially if you're nervous about your speaking level. Aside from being a great teacher she has a wonderful and fun personality and is very flexible. She is a consummate professional with an amazing grasp of not only the Greek language itself but the nature of its tuition. A first -class teacher!
