About Ciarán
Hello, my name is Ciarán. I’m 21 years old and studying Croatian and Hungarian language and literature at J.J. Strossmayer University in Osijek, Croatia.
All my life I have had a passion for learning languages and exploring new cultures and deeply enjoy fostering and sharing that passion with others. I am a polyglot and I have experience with 7 languages, of which I speak 3 fluently.
The first foreign language I learned was Irish. I grew up in Ireland and as such the Irish language is a compulsory school subject, however, I always had an interest in it beyond passing a grade and as a teenager would spend summers in the Irish speaking towns on the west coast of Donegal. As you can imagine this was an extremely formative experience for me and helped cement my strategies as a mostly self-taught language learner going forward.
Living in Osijek, my main spoken and written language is Croatian and I have a strong command of both colloquial and standard registers.

Lessons are held online over zoom and the structure is completely tailored to the student’s needs. I prefer to take a well rounded approach with an emphasis on contemporary usage and experiencing the language in different contexts while also simultaneously training students’ productive skills (ie. speaking, writing) to provide a solid foundation for their needs. For beginners classes I use English as a medium of instruction before giving students an option to switch to Croatian at intermediate levels.
Additionally for more advanced students I also offer lessons themed more about cultural and literary spheres as this is what I study in college. In this case I typically conduct all my lessons through Croatian.

He was a great student in school and actually won an award for best at both Irish and European section (French) out of 150 people! He was always willing to help me and other students out and was always very thorough with his explaining and went into depth. He’s keen to learn so his enthusiasm for knowledge is bound to run off on you too!
I have seen Ciarán’s passion and knowledge of not just Irish but of languages as a whole over the years. He has an innate understanding of the Irish language and would be an incredibly helpful, dedicated and valuable tutor to have as a student due to his love for the language. He even won the Irish language award in our school before graduating!
