About Siva

Para Vidya and Apara Vidya comes from the Mundaka Upanishad where sage Angirasa explains to Shaunaka that there are two kinds of knowledge to be known.

Apara Vidya (lower knowledge) includes the four Vedas (Rig, Yajur, Sama, Atharva), along with phonetics, rituals, grammar, etymology, prosody, and astronomy. This knowledge deals with the empirical world — rituals, scriptures, and sciences that help one function in life and attain rewards, but it remains within the boundaries of the changeable and conditioned.

Para Vidya (higher knowledge) is that "by which the Imperishable (Akshara/Brahman) is realized" — direct knowledge of the Self, the eternal, unchanging reality underlying all existence.

The Mundaka Upanishad's core teaching is that apara vidya, however vast, cannot lead to liberation (moksha); only para vidya — realization of Brahman/Atman — grants liberation.

As a devout Tamil Brahmin, I have a deep appreciation for the roots of Vedic culture and the rich spiritual tradition of Hinduism. One of my greatest passions is sharing this knowledge and wisdom with the next generation, as I believe it is essential for preserving our cultural heritage and promoting a sense of community and belonging. Through my teaching, I strive to convey the life values and principles that are at the heart of Hinduism, such as respect for elders, compassion for all living beings, and the pursuit of knowledge and self-realization. I also aim to instill a sense of devotion and reverence for the divine, whether through prayer, meditation, or other spiritual practices. Overall, I see myself as a humble servant of this great tradition, and I am committed to doing my part to ensure that it continues to flourish and inspire future generations.

Perfect! I am delighted to share my experience with my son's guru, who has been an exceptional teacher. With a great level of patience and adaptability, he has effectively tailored his teaching methods to suit my son's age and learning style. In a short span of time, my son has learned numerous slokas and mantras. My 5 year old son genuinely looks forward to his lessons, which speaks volumes about the positive and engaging environment the guru creates. Overall, his approach has made learning both enjoyable and enriching for my son. Highly recommended!

Perfect! Pandit Siva Kumar is an excellent teacher who is very knowledgeable about all aspects of Hinduism and is very interested in sharing his deep and extensive knowledge, and in helping others learn. He is highly qualified to be a teacher, and he was born into an authentic South Indian temple background where he has been fully involved in authentic and traditional Vedic lifestyle, rituals, and practices and scholarly study in his upbringing and lived experience. He can teach about many subjects of Hinduism, such as Sanskrit language, and can teach many kinds of chanting, pujas, devotions, and prayers and Vedic sciences. He has vast knowledge, I would say he has an encyclopedic knowledge of Hinduism and can answer any questions and can give detailed and clear explanation regarding rituals and practices and the tradition such as found in the teachings of the Rishis and Gurus and the texts of the holy books of Sanātana Dharma. He is patient and compassionate in his outlook, he explains everything well, and is interested in helping his students.
I consider myself very fortunate to know this teacher and be able to learn from him. I recommend anyone who is sincerely interested learning Hindu Dharma to study from him.

Excellent Teacher. I learnt a lot of Sanskrit from him in online classes. He is very polite and emphasises on perfection. Sanskrit is all about sounds (Shabdhas). So he gives atmost importance to pronunciation. He taught me for 6 months and in this 6 months I learnt so many things from him that I can cherish for life. I recommend him for his deep knowledge and excellent way of teaching. His fee is also very nominal because he is not a money minded person and he teaches for his passion towards Sanskrit.
