About Jay

I’m a professional marimbist and educator with years of experience teaching students of all ages and levels. I focus on building setups and approaches that genuinely work for each player, guided by an understanding of how people learn and move. I’ve developed my own method—distinct from traditional approaches or popular techniques—that emphasizes melodic independence with one hand and comfort. It is about playing the marimba in a way that feels natural and sustainable. I prioritize listening to my students, understanding their habits, and guiding them toward solutions that improve their playing without forcing them to abandon what already works for them. My teaching blends technical rigor with a holistic, fascia- and body-conscious perspective, addressing movement, efficiency, and endurance. I’m particularly focused on helping students break free from repetitive patterns that limit growth, while fostering confidence and musical expression. Whether you’re a beginner, advanced, or somewhere in between, my goal is to provide guidance that feels intuitive, effective, and tailored—so you can play more fluidly, develop lasting technique, and reach your musical goals with clarity and ease.

About the lesson

I teach marimba to all levels, helping you build a setup that genuinely works for you. Together, we refine technique, explore grips, and develop approaches that feel natural, efficient, and effective. I can help you play more fluidly, tackle challenging repertoire, and achieve measurable progress with clarity and confidence.
